QUESTION: What is the quickest and easiest job to land? I want to work
from home but I do not really have any experience. Is it possible for
someone like me to get a home based job?
Anyone can land a work at home job. Yes… anyone. But you must be willing to compromise. One thing is for sure, if you do not have years of advanced administrative experience, a top of the line education and current versions of necessary software, you will NOT land a work at home administrative assistant position paying $15.00 per hour. But that doesn’t mean that you must miss the work-from-home boat.
We can’t tell you how many emails we receive from applicants who cry “I just can’t understand why I can’t get hired!” We ask them what they’ve been applying for and they tell us the “professional executive assistant” position or the “virtual administrative manager” position. Next, we will ask about their background and inevitably they’ll tell us
that they have no college degree, no work at home experience, no administrative management experience and no equipment in their home office. They do not have a second phone line and are using a dial up AOL account!
The point is – would you apply for a job as a lawyer if you’ve never been to law school? Would you apply for a job teaching high school math if you’ve only ever taught pre-school music? No, of course not. But for some reason, applicants looking to work from home think that all the rules do not apply. Well, they do – big time!
We’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. High profile work at home jobs such as Virtual Assistants and Executive Secretaries are some of the most competitive on the block. So, if your skills, equipment or experience are not up to par, you’ll probably be wasting your time. Instead, you might think about getting your virtual feet in the door with a customer service position, a sales position or an entry level trainee position. Which brings us back to your question – which job is the easiest to land?
By far, customer service, telephone work, sales and telemarketing are the easiest jobs to get. And there are tons of them. Recruiting, technical jobs, bloggers, programmers, and account representatives are also high on the list.
Make no bones about it – these are great jobs that offer real opportunities to work from home for excellent pay and benefits.

Medical Office Professionals Work At Home Job Outlook
There is absolutely no better work at home opportunity than medical transcription, medical billing and medical coding. More new and higher paying jobs are available in this field than any other opportunity. For every ONE home based administrative assistant position that is listed, there are THIRTY home based medical transcriptionist jobs listed!! If you want to work from your home, get hired quickly and earn a good salary then this is the career choice for you.
You can work full or part time, you can freelance or work as an employee, or you can operate as a home based business. Whichever you choose, there are plenty of immediate hire jobs available.
The problem is that there are not enough medical transcriptionists, billers and coders with either experience or training in the field, and very few employers are willing to offer training because of the highly specific nature of the work. However, this should not stop an interested applicant from pursuing the career field. Medical Billing- or – Medical Transcription Training can be completed quickly and affordably from home.
If you are looking for a great work at home career – medical transcription, medical billing or medical coding is simply the best that you will find.
A Medical Transcriptionist Is…
Medical transcription, also known as MT, is a health or medical office profession, in which voice-recorded reports as dictated by physicians or other healthcare professionals, are converted into text format. This text may be printed and placed in the patient’s record or retained in electronic format. Medical transcription can be performed by MTs who are employees in a hospital or who work at home as telecommuting employees for the hospital.
An individual who performs medical transcription is known as a medical transcriptionist or an MT. The equipment the MT uses is called a medical transcriber. The term transcriber describes the electronic equipment used in performing medical transcription, e.g., a cassette player with foot controls operated by the MT for report playback and transcription. Medical transcriptionists are sometimes also given the title of Medical Language Specialist or Health Information Management (HIM) paraprofessional.
Medical Transcriptionists work as telecommuting employees or independent contractors for an outsourced service are often employed by hospitals, doctors offices, clinics, physician groups and other healthcare providers. MTs who can consistently and accurately transcribe multiple document work-types and return reports within a reasonable turnaround-time (TAT) are sought after. TATs set by the service provider or agreed to by the transcriptionist should be reasonable but consistent with the need to return the document to the patient’s record in a timely manner.
Obtaining a certificate from a medical transcription training program does not entitle an MT to use the title of Certified Medical Transcriptionist (CMT). The CMT credential is earned by passing a certification examination conducted solely by the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI), formerly the American Association for Medical Transcription (AAMT), as the credentialing designation they created. AHDI also offers the credential of Registered Medical Transcriptionist (RMT). According to AHDI, the RMT is an entry-level credential while the CMT is an advanced level.
But the good news is – you do not need the CMT to be hired if you at least have passed a basic Medical Transcription training program. You can also obtain your CMT at a later time in order to increase your salary.
A Medical Biller is…
Medical billing is the process of submitting and following up on claims to insurance companies in order to receive payment for services rendered by a healthcare provider. The same process is used for most insurance companies, whether they are private companies or government-owned.
The medical billing process is an interaction between a healthcare provider and the insurance company or payer. The level of service, once determined by qualified medical staff after the patients exam, is translated into a five digit procedure code from the Current Procedural Terminology CPT. The verbal diagnosis is translated into a numerical code as well, drawn from the ICD-9-CM. These two codes, a CPT and an ICD-9-CM, are equally important for claims processing. Once the procedure and diagnosis codes are determined, the medical biller will transmit the claim to the insurance company (payer). This is usually done electronically by formatting the claim as an ANSI 837 file and using Electronic Data Interchange to submit the claim file to the payer directly or via a clearinghouse. About 30% of medical claims get sent to payers using paper forms -all the rest are either manually entered or entered using automated recognition or OCR software.
Medical billers are encouraged, but not required by law to become certified by taking an exam such as the Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist Exam (CMRS Exam). However, most medical billers choose to work from home and start earning money first and then get their certification later. Certification is generally not required to be hired to work from home, however experience or coding and billing TRAINING is required in order to land a job.
A Medical Coder is…
In medical billing, a medical coder is an individual who uses a set of published codes for reporting services provided by a health care provider to an insurer of the recipient of the care. Medical billing is the process of transforming descriptions of medical diagnoses and procedures into universal medical code numbers. The diagnoses and procedures are usually taken from a variety of sources within the medical record, such as the transcription of the doctor’s notes, laboratory results, radiologic results, and other sources. These diagnosis and procedure codes are used by government health programs, private health insurance companies, workers’ compensation carriers and others.
This process is necessary in order to be able to submit a claim against the recipient’s insurance policy for any of the services or items sold to a patient. The codes are also used by local and national governments and private healthcare organizations to conduct research and gather statistcal data about certain conditions, the treatment of those conditions and the outcome of the treatment.
Medical coders do not necessarily need to be certified to work from home although it is helpful. The American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) offers the popular CPC coding credentials. The Board of Medical Specialty Coding (BMSC) and Professional Association of Health care Coding Specialists (PAHCS) both offer credentialing in specialty coding. The National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA) offers a credential as a Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR). Generally, medical coders will be hired to work from home if they either have previous coding or billing experience or they have completed a Coding Training Program. Home based medical coders will also need good oral and written communication skills as they often serve as liaisons between healthcare facilities, insurance companies, and other establishments. Candidates proficient with computer software and technology will be appealing to employers as healthcare facilities continue to adopt electronic health records.
Medical Transcription, Coding and Billing Training… Do you need it?
While medical transcription, coding and billing do not mandate registration or certification, individual workers usually seek out training in order to be hired quickly and to obtain better pay. Very few employers in this field are willing to offer training or hire a medical office professional who does not have at least some knowledge of the field.
One of the best and most highly recognized training program with employers is CareerStep. Career Step’s graduates are welcomed hires by industry partners – often, their graduates get to PICK AMONG MANY JOB OFFERS! Career Step actually partners with top companies that hire home based medical transcriptionists (MTs), billers and coders so graduates can actually get hired for the best jobs! The program is very affordable and easy (interest free) payment plans are available.
Career Steps Medical Transcription Program offers an AHDI approved program that has been featured on the Wall Street News Hour, and many other media outlets. The training covers all MT specialties and prepares students for real work. You’ll be fully trained to transcribe medical reports of all difficulties, specialties, and from a wide variety of dictators. Learn More…
The Career Step Medical Coding and Billing Program is very in demand by hiring employers. There’s a nationwide shortage of coders, and the field is expected to grow by another 18% before 2016 (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2008-2009 edition). The curriculum is designed to prepare you for work with outpatient medical facilities (hospitals and clinics), insurance companies, and government agencies as a medical coder or as a medical coding and billing specialist. You’ll be fully trained to use medical records to accurately code outpatient diagnosis and procedures and complete the billing or reimbursement process so that you can preform these tasks from your home.
